A government hospital in Lahore has come under serious scrutiny following allegations of financial misconduct involving a senior heart surgeon and hospital staff during a patient’s treatment process.
According to initial reports, a heart surgeon identified as Dr. Rafay Gillani is accused of receiving more than Rs. 1 million from the family of a patient for a medical procedure that is officially provided free of cost in public sector hospitals. It is further alleged that the payment was transferred directly into the doctor’s personal bank account, raising concerns over misuse of authority and violation of service rules.
In addition to the surgeon’s alleged involvement, a ward boy posted at the same hospital has also been accused of demanding money from the patient’s relatives and allegedly issuing threats to influence the scheduling of the surgery. These allegations have intensified concerns about corruption and unethical practices within the hospital’s administrative and support staff.
Following these complaints, the relevant authorities have initiated a formal inquiry under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEDA) Act. Notices have been issued to all individuals involved, seeking detailed explanations and responses regarding the accusations. Officials have stated that the investigation is expected to be completed within 60 days, after which appropriate disciplinary or legal action will be taken based on the findings.
