Low-Cost Egyptian Airline to Launch Direct Flights to Dubai

Later this month, low-cost airline Air Cairo will start offering direct flights from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh to Dubai.

Every Thursday and Monday beginning on April 20, Dubai World Central (DWC) Airport will offer twice-weekly flights.

At 8.35 am, SM492 will fly from DWC to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH), where it will touch down at 9.50 am At 3.15 am, SM491 will leave SSH and arrive in Dubai at 7.35 am.

The airline confirmed the arrival of its 20th A320 nine last month. The fleet of Air Cairo had 30 aircraft as of the end of March.

Egypt reportedly wants to increase its tourist numbers by 25-30 percent annually and attract 30 million tourists by 2028.

Egypt’s tourism numbers fell to 3.7 million in 2020 from around 13 million in 2019, before rising to eight million in 2021, the country’s statistics agency Capmas said.

Egypt’s revenue from the tourism sector is expected to decline to US$4 billion in 2020 from about US$13 billion in 2019, before reaching US$9 billion in 2021.

Egypt’s tourism authorities have indicated that the country will need to invest US$30 billion in 300,000 rooms and suites, as well as a similar investment in customer experiences, to help it achieve its upcoming tourism goals.
