Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Shakes Parts of Punjab,Death of 12-Year-Old Child Reported

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck several parts of Punjab, including Mandi Bahauddin, Malakwal, and Phalia, creating panic and fear among residents. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake originated near Jhelum and occurred at a depth of approximately 12 kilometres beneath the surface.

The tremors were felt strongly in various surrounding areas, causing people to immediately rush out of their homes, offices, and shops in fear. Many residents were seen gathering in open spaces while reciting prayers as the ground shook for several seconds. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and anxiety, with families trying to ensure the safety of children and elderly relatives during the sudden quake.

Authorities reported that a 12-year-old child lost their life during the incident, adding to the distress caused by the earthquake. Initial reports suggest that the panic and shaking created dangerous conditions in some areas, while officials continue to monitor the situation closely for any additional casualties or damage.

Emergency teams and local administration officials have been placed on alert to assess affected areas and respond to possible incidents resulting from the tremors. Citizens have been advised to stay cautious, avoid damaged structures, and remain prepared in case aftershocks occur.
