Major Housing Sc@m Uncovered in Islamabad as 42,000 Plot Files Sold Against Capacity of 6,000 Plots

A major housing controversy has surfaced in Pakistan after investigators uncovered what is being described as one of the country’s largest alleged real estate fraud cases linked to the Islamabad Cooperative Housing Society (ICHS). The case has raised serious concerns among citizens and authorities due to the scale of the alleged irregularities and the large number of people reportedly affected.

According to investigation sources, the housing society reportedly had the capacity to accommodate only around 6,000 residential plots, yet nearly 42,000 plot files were allegedly issued and sold to buyers over time. This massive gap between available land and the number of files distributed has sparked allegations of large-scale mismanagement, unauthorized sales, duplicate allotments, and fake documentation. Thousands of individuals who invested their savings into the project are now feared to have been impacted by the alleged scheme.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reportedly identified financial irregularities exceeding Rs. 16 billion during the course of the investigation, although officials believe the total losses could increase further as additional records are examined. Investigators are reviewing multiple transactions, property records, and documentation to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify all individuals involved.

Several former officials, associates, and individuals connected to the housing society have already been taken into custody as authorities continue expanding the investigation. Officials are also examining allegations related to illegal file transfers, unauthorized approvals, and the sale of non-existent plots. The scandal has once again highlighted concerns surrounding transparency, regulation, and oversight within Pakistan’s housing and real estate sector, where many citizens invest life savings in the hope of securing property for their families.
