The Talpur dynasty erected Manora Fort in 1797 to guard the port.
It served as a hub for commerce between Oman and Bahrain. [7][8] The fort thwarted attacks on Karachi Harbor by Qasimi pirates in the 19th century.
It was decided that Manora would be used as a naval station for Pakistan after its independence from the British, and navy warships were moored along the eastern side of the island. At least half of Pakistan’s navy boats have left Manora with the inauguration of the newer Jinnah Naval Base in Ormara, which is 250 kilometers distant.
In addition to the sandy beaches of Manora, Karachiites go to the Sandspit and Hawkesbay beaches because of their large stretches of sand. However, tourist infrastructure is lacking. The Manora Point Lighthouse, at the southernmost tip of Manora Island, stands at a towering 38 meters (125 feet), making it one of the highest in Pakistan.
