Maryam Nawaz Urges Women and Students to Press Panic Button in Emergency

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has urged women and female students to use emergency panic buttons whenever they face harassment, threats or other dangerous situations. The system is designed to connect them directly with authorities so they can seek help quickly.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has introduced these buttons at educational institutions and public places as part of efforts to improve women’s safety. In the first phase, 39 women’s colleges and universities in Lahore received the facility, with plans to expand it to more than 450 women’s colleges across Punjab.

When someone presses a panic button, an alert reaches the PSCA control room and the Virtual Women Police Station, allowing authorities to assess the situation and arrange police assistance.

The initiative is part of the provincial government’s wider efforts to protect women in public spaces. Other services include the Virtual Women Police Station, which allows women to report complaints and seek guidance without visiting a police station in person.

Authorities have also introduced safety measures at pedestrian bridges and public transport vehicles to help women seek assistance during emergencies.
