Pakistan has introduced its first nationwide IT competency exam called the National Skill Competency Test (NSCT).
The initiative aims to better connect academic education with industry requirements and improve employment opportunities for students in the technology sector.
More than 33,000 students took part in the examination, which was conducted across 112 cities with participation from over 190 universities. The large-scale test reflects growing efforts to assess technical skills on a national level.
The exam was developed through collaboration between government institutions, higher education authorities, and industry representatives. Officials say the goal is to create a common standard for evaluating IT knowledge and practical skills among graduates.
Authorities believe the initiative can help employers identify qualified candidates more easily while giving students a clearer understanding of industry expectations.
The test is also expected to support the creation of a verified national talent pool for Pakistan’s growing technology sector.
The government sees this as an important step toward improving the global reputation of Pakistani IT professionals. Officials hope stronger skill verification will increase confidence among international companies looking to hire talent from Pakistan.
Emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science are expected to benefit from improved skill development and standardized assessment systems. Experts believe stronger technical training could help prepare students for future job demands.
Pakistan’s technology industry has shown significant growth in recent years, and initiatives focused on education and skills are increasingly viewed as important for sustaining progress.
The introduction of the NSCT is expected to support long-term workforce development and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
