Morocco has reportedly named its 1,055-kilometre Tiznit–Dakhla Expressway the “President Donald Trump Highway” in honor of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The decision is being viewed as a symbolic gesture reflecting the close diplomatic relationship between Morocco and the United States in recent years.
Stretching along Morocco’s southern Atlantic coast, the expressway is one of Africa’s largest infrastructure projects.
It connects key southern cities, improves transportation networks, facilitates trade, and strengthens access to remote regions. The highway is also expected to play a major role in supporting tourism, logistics, and long-term economic development across southern Morocco.
The tribute comes in the wake of the United States’ 2020 recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty claim over Western Sahara, a move that significantly strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries.
Moroccan officials have continued to emphasize their strategic partnership with Washington through economic, security, and diplomatic cooperation.
Completed at an estimated cost of $1 billion, the Tiznit–Dakhla Expressway became fully operational in 2025 and is expected to enhance regional connectivity, encourage investment, and create new opportunities for businesses and local communities across the region.
