President Dr. Arif Alvi has made the National Assembly (NA) stop working by signing a paper from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This means the group of people who make laws and decisions (the legislative body) is now not working. They did this because of a rule called Article 58-1 in the Constitution. This news was officially shared by the President’s Office.
This move makes the government finish its work earlier than planned. This government started after the old Prime Minister Imran Khan left because of a no-confidence vote. The current prime minister said he would tell President Alvi to stop the NA, which means the government is over before the normal time.
Now, the focus is on making a temporary group to take care of things until the next big elections. People are talking about who should lead this temporary group, like Ishaq Dar, Hafeez Sheikh, and Justice Shakeel Baloch. But the government hasn’t confirmed anyone yet.
Even though this government is stopping, there’s a discussion about when the next elections will happen. They’re thinking about waiting for the 2023 census and changing the areas where people vote (constituencies) before they decide.
