NBP nine-month profit falls to Rs 48.9 billion as report names new chief

National Bank of Pakistan (PSX: NBP) reported standalone after-tax profit of Rs 48.9 billion for the nine months to September 2026, lower than in the same period a year earlier. Earnings per share also fell, showing weaker earnings across the comparable period.

The quarterly report, transmitted on Thursday, 29 October 2026, contains unaudited standalone financial statements. It also records the appointment of Imran Sarwar as President and CEO with immediate effect.

Profit across both reporting bases

On a standalone basis, the bank earned Rs 103 billion before tax and Rs 48.9 billion after tax. Standalone earnings per share — the profit for each share — stood at Rs 22.98.

The consolidated results reported profit before tax of Rs 104 billion and profit after tax of Rs 49.1 billion. Consolidated earnings per share were Rs 22.83; these figures are presented separately from the bank’s standalone results.

Earnings weakened from a year earlier

The filing shows that both standalone after-tax profit and earnings per share declined from the comparable nine-month period a year earlier. The comparison is between matching periods, rather than between a single quarter and cumulative earnings.

The material does not establish an earnings trend for the period before that. The earlier dividend announcement is a separate shareholder distribution, not a measure of profit for a comparable period.

Less profit for each share

In plain terms, the bank remained profitable but earned less than in the matching period a year earlier. The decline in earnings per share also means less profit was attributable to each share.

The leadership appointment is a separate development in the report. The material does not describe an associated change in strategy or explain the causes of the earnings decline.

Earlier dividend on file

The payout history supplied includes an earlier cash dividend announced on 25 Feb 2026. A cash dividend is a payment to shareholders, distinct from the earnings per share reported in the accounts.

The supplied material does not specify a new payout or book-closure dates for these results. It therefore does not establish a new shareholder entitlement to compare with the earlier distribution.
