New School Timings Announced in Sindh Amid Harsh Weather

As the cold wave tightens its grip on Sindh, the Sindh Education and Literacy Department has taken proactive measures to address the challenges posed by severe weather conditions. With the approval of the competent authority, the department announced revised timings for all private and government schools in the province, including Karachi.

Effective immediately until January 31, 2024, schools will commence operations at the earlier time of 8:30 am. This decision aims to mitigate the impact of the prevailing severe cold waves, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The directive, outlined in a notification, applies to all government and private educational institutes under the administrative control of the department. It provides clarity on the schedule adjustment following the resumption of classes on January 1, after a 10-day winter vacation break.

Looking ahead, the notification also sheds light on the upcoming academic year, scheduled to commence on April 15, 2024, for both public and private schools across Sindh. Additionally, colleges are set to initiate their academic sessions on August 1, 2024.

In a parallel context, the provincial government of Punjab, facing similar harsh weather conditions, has extended winter holidays for public and private educational institutions until January 9. Schools in Punjab are expected to reopen on January 10, with stringent measures, including mandatory face mask usage within school premises, to address the challenges posed by the cold wave and smog issue.

These coordinated efforts by educational authorities reflect a commitment to adapting to challenging weather conditions, prioritizing the safety of students and staff. The timely communication of adjusted schedules and adherence to safety protocols demonstrate a proactive approach in ensuring a conducive learning environment during adverse weather situations.
