Lahore’s recently reconstructed Khayaban-e-Firdousi Road, completed at a cost of more than Rs. 2 billion, has once again developed a sinkhole following the season’s first heavy rainfall, raising fresh concerns over the durability and quality of the project.
This marks the second road collapse in just three days, despite the road undergoing an 18-month reconstruction aimed at permanently resolving recurring damage caused by leaking sewerage lines.
The repeated failures have prompted criticism from residents and experts, who are questioning whether the reconstruction work was carried out to the required standards.
The latest incident has also intensified scrutiny of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), and the Punjab government.
Calls are growing for a transparent investigation into the multi-billion-rupee infrastructure project, with demands for accountability and a detailed review of the construction quality to prevent similar incidents in the future.
