PPP and PML-N are moving toward forming a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan after the latest election results. The PPP emerged as the leading party with 10 seats, while the PML-N secured four seats in largely peaceful polling across the region.
Following the results, both parties have started discussions to share power in the new government. Early reports suggest that the Chief Minister position is likely to be held by the PPP, while the Governor’s post may go to the PML-N.
Negotiations are also focusing on the distribution of ministries between the two parties. Sources indicate a possible 60–40 split in cabinet positions, though final details have not yet been officially confirmed. The talks are ongoing and may continue until a final agreement is reached.
The development shows continued cooperation between the two major political parties at both federal and regional levels. Despite political differences in other parts of the country, both parties appear willing to work together in Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure stable governance.
Political observers say coalition governments are common in the region due to the distribution of seats and the presence of independent candidates. They believe that power-sharing arrangements often become necessary to form a stable administration.
The situation has also led to wider political comparisons, as different parties are often judged based on their governance performance in various provinces. PPP’s long-term rule in Sindh and PML-N’s governance experience in Punjab are frequently discussed in political debates across the country.
As discussions continue, both parties are expected to finalize their agreement soon so that the new government in Gilgit-Baltistan can begin its work.
