No Fruit Pictures on Flavoured Drink Packs, National Assembly Panel

Pakistan’s National Assembly Standing Committee on Food Security has proposed stricter regulations for flavoured drink packaging to improve consumer safety and transparency.

The committee recommended banning fruit images on packaging unless the drink genuinely contains that fruit. It also proposed mandatory health warnings stating that flavoured drinks are not suitable for children under 13, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, while advising consumers against excessive consumption.

During the meeting, lawmakers also expressed concerns over substandard bottled water, with experts cautioning that prolonged exposure of plastic bottles to direct sunlight may pose potential health risks.

The committee will continue reviewing regulations aimed at strengthening food safety standards across the country.
