Nokia Signs Agreement With Samsung to License Patents

On Thursday, Nokia announced that it had reached an agreement with Samsung to license patents covering its video standards technologies.

Despite the fact that the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Samsung will pay Nokia royalties.

Nokia’s patent portfolio includes over 3,500 patent families that have been considered key to 5G.

The agreement comes months after Samsung was sued in the United States by competitor Ericsson over royalty fees and patent licenses.

After Ericsson alleged Samsung had infringed on some of its patents in 4G and next-generation 5G wireless cellular communications infrastructure systems, the US International Trade Commission announced last month that it would launch an investigation.
