Notices to Top PIA Officers Issued Over Expensive Lease Of Aircraft By NAB.

Anti-corruption observer of official correspondence shared, PIAC top officers were issued notices, ‘bid opening committee’s’ seven members were also included.

A NA public accounts committee’s subcommittee was informed almost a year ago on 28th august 2020 by Auditor general of Pakistan that in 2014-2015, PIA had obtained six aircrafts on wet lease at a cost of Rs2.73 billion in complete disregard of the guidelines set. The case was forwarded to NAB for further investigations.

Inquiry against the top officers of PIAC was initiated by NAB for six air craft’s alleged non-transparent possession on Rs 2.73 billion wet lease. Sub-committee was informed by Audit officials that the only rich airlines could afford the lease easily as it was expensive. Moreover, advertisements were only given for four aircrafts and violating the rules, six were acquired and operated on local routes in 2014-2015.convener of the subcommittee expressed its dissatisfaction and forwarded the case to accountability watchdog and that there was no need of obtaining the aircrafts.
