OGDCL Discovers Gas Reserves in Kohat, KP

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest state-owned exploration and production (E&P) company, has announced a significant discovery of hydrocarbon reserves at the Togh-02 well in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This exciting news was shared by OGDCL in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, highlighting the successful exploration efforts in the region.

According to the notice, OGDCL, operating under the Kohat Exploration License, along with Saif Energy Limited (SEL), has made this discovery in collaboration, with OGDCL holding a 75% stake and SEL the remaining 25%.

The drilling of the Togh-02 well began on August 28, 2023, and reached a total depth of 2,600 meters measured depth (MD). Subsequently, a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-01) was conducted in the Lumshiwal-II Formation.

After analyzing wireline logs, the well demonstrated promising results, showing a flow rate of 2.842 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 28 barrels per day of condensate (bpdc). Additionally, the wellhead flowing pressure was recorded at 540 pounds per square inch (PSI) with a 32/64” choke size.

This discovery marks a significant milestone for OGDCL and underscores the company’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s energy resources while contributing to the country’s economic growth and energy security.
