Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Bobi Deep-1 exploratory well located in District Sanghar, Sindh. The discovery is being seen as a positive development for Pakistan’s energy sector and could help strengthen the country’s domestic energy resources.
The company shared the news through a notification submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange. According to the report, testing at the newly discovered well showed encouraging results, with production reaching approximately 2,000 barrels of oil per day along with 1.1 million standard cubic feet of natural gas daily.
OGDCL stated that the exploratory well was drilled to a depth of 3,305 meters. The hydrocarbons were discovered in the Lower Goru Formation, a geological zone known for its energy potential.
Company officials highlighted that this is the first successful hydrocarbon discovery in the area’s extensive sand play, making it an important milestone for future exploration activities.
Experts believe the discovery could contribute to reducing Pakistan’s dependence on imported energy resources. Increased local production of oil and gas may help address the country’s growing energy needs and support efforts to improve energy security.
The successful drilling results have also increased confidence in the exploration potential of the region. Officials noted that the discovery opens new opportunities for further exploration and development in nearby areas, which could lead to additional finds in the future.
OGDCL described the achievement as a significant step toward expanding Pakistan’s energy reserves. The company remains committed to exploring new resources and investing in projects that can support the country’s long-term energy requirements while contributing to economic growth and development.
