Over 4,000 Arrested in Lahore Anti-Kite Flying Operations This Year

Lahore Police have intensified their crackdown against kite flying across the city after a serious incident near Muslim Town Bridge left a young motorcyclist injured by a sharp kite string. According to authorities, the victim, identified as Abubakar, was riding through the area when a stray string suddenly struck his neck, causing severe injuries and panic among nearby commuters.

Rescue teams immediately shifted him to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment, where doctors later confirmed that his condition had stabilized and he was out of danger. The incident once again raised serious concerns over the risks associated with dangerous metallic and chemical-coated kite strings, which have repeatedly caused injuries and fatal accidents in different parts of Lahore.

Police officials stated that more than 4,000 individuals have been arrested so far this year during citywide anti-kite flying operations. During the ongoing crackdown, authorities also recovered thousands of kites, string rolls, and spools allegedly being used for illegal kite flying activities. Raids have been conducted in several neighborhoods to target manufacturers, sellers, and individuals involved in the trade and use of hazardous kite strings.

Senior officials within Lahore Police have directed officers to strengthen enforcement measures and ensure strict monitoring in sensitive areas. Police teams have also been instructed to remove dangerous kite strings from roads, bridges, electric poles, and other public spaces to reduce the risk of further accidents involving motorcyclists and pedestrians.

Authorities emphasized that negligence in enforcing anti-kite flying laws would not be tolerated, and accountability measures have been introduced to ensure effective implementation of safety regulations. Officials say the renewed campaign aims to prevent more tragic incidents and improve public safety across the provincial capital.
