Over 40s Cricket Global Cup to Kick Off Today in Karachi

The first-ever Over 40s Cricket Global Cup begins today, with Pakistan Veterans taking on the USA in the opening match. The tournament’s trophy unveiling and a press conference were held in Karachi, led by Fawad Ijaz, Chairman of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA).

Fawad Ijaz emphasized the historic significance of hosting this major veterans’ cricket tournament in Pakistan for the first time. He assured everyone that stringent security measures are in place for all participating international teams.

He also explained that the tournament was originally named the World Cup but had to be changed to the Global Cup due to objections from the International Cricket Council (ICC). However, it now has ICC approval.

Fawad Ijaz clarified the absence of the Indian team, citing visa challenges for Indian players. The tournament features teams from Australia, the West Indies, Canada, Hong Kong, the USA, and the UAE. Karachi will host a total of 36 matches at five different venues, with Pakistan playing all their matches at the National Bank Stadium.

Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the Pakistan Veterans team, which includes star players like Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Abdul Razzaq, and others. Misbah-ul-Haq expressed his excitement about returning to international cricket and acknowledged the challenges of playing 45-over matches.

He also highlighted the positive impact of hosting the tournament in Pakistan, allowing fans to see their cricketing heroes in action once again.
