Overeating Eid Meat? More Than 20,000 Lahoris Seek Medical Treament in Last 3 Days

During the Eid holidays, hospitals in Lahore reported a sharp rise in patients suffering from stomach-related illnesses after eating large amounts of meat. Health officials said more than 20,000 people visited major public hospitals in just three days with digestive problems.

Doctors noted that many patients came in with symptoms like diarrhea, gastroenteritis, food poisoning, indigestion, and stomach infections. Most of these cases were linked to overeating, especially heavy meat dishes consumed over a short period of time.

Medical experts explained that during Eid, people often change their routine food habits suddenly. Large portions of rich and oily food, combined with less water intake and poor food storage at home, can disturb the digestive system. In some cases, leftover meat that is not stored properly also leads to bacterial growth and food poisoning.

Hospital staff said emergency wards remained busy throughout the holidays as patients of all ages, including children and elderly people, were brought in for treatment. While most cases were mild, some required proper medical care and hydration support.

Doctors have advised the public to eat in moderation, avoid continuously heavy meals, and keep proper hygiene while handling and storing meat. They also recommended drinking enough water and including light foods like fruits and vegetables along with meat dishes.
