A brave Pakistan Air Force officer lost his life in Islamabad on Sunday while trying to help a woman in danger. Group Captain Asim Tariq was shot dead near Shaheen Chowk, opposite Bahria University and Air University, within the Margalla Police Station limits.
According to reports, Group Captain Asim Tariq was passing through the area when he saw an armed man allegedly trying to force a young woman into a vehicle. He stepped forward on humanitarian grounds to stop the suspected abduction and calm the situation. A heated argument took place, and the suspect suddenly opened fire. The bullet hit the officer, who died at the scene from his injuries. His body was shifted to PAF Hospital Unit-II.
The woman, identified as Nimra, who was present at the time of the incident, was taken into protective custody by police for questioning. The armed suspect and his accomplices managed to flee the scene.
Police have launched a search operation and started an investigation to arrest those responsible. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also sought a detailed report from Islamabad police.
