“Pakistan Army Will Not Be Available for Election Duty”: Defence Ministry

The Pakistan Army will not be available for election duty this year due to the “situation in the country,” the Ministry of Defence notified the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday, adding that the army’s “primary priority” was to ensure the security of the nation and its borders.


According to a press release from the ECP, during the third session of the commission regarding the elections for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies, which was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, Defence Secretary Lt. Gen. (ret.) Hamood Uz Zaman Khan and Additional Defence Secretary Major General Khurram Sarfaraz Khan provided the commission with an update on the state of the nation.
