Pakistan Chess Team All Set to Participate in International Olympiad in India

Pakistan’s 10 strong national chess team, consisting the country’s top five male and female players are ready to participate in the international chess Olympiad going to be held in next week in India.

Recently, a press conference held in Punjab Sports Board (PSB) in the national hockey stadium in Lahore by newly elected members of the Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) enlightened the development.

Since the election of the new body, they have been able to conduct several tournaments which includes the national championship and the national junior championshipz confirmed by CFP President Hanif Qureshi.

National team have also been sent to international tournament by them including the west Asian championship where Pakistan got the bronze medal. They so confirmed that over the last 30 years chess as suffered a lot due to nepotism and corruption.

However, from last 2 months after the election there are efforts to promote the game. As per
CFP General Secretary Umar Khan they are only only working on players but also making sure about sponsorship and professional couching which is important for long term success of chess in Pakistan.

He further confirmed that for the first time international grandmaster coach has been aligned with the team.

The team will participate in India with 190 other countries from 28 July to 10 Aug, 2022. It will be led by Amir Karim Fide Master. The team also showed up at the press conference. Amir showed satisfaction and hoped that team would finally have an international grand master soon.
