Pakistan’s energy sector has received a positive boost following a new oil and gas discovery in Sindh by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
The company has successfully drilled and evaluated the Bobi-11 well in the Bobi Oil Field, which is fully owned by OGDCL. The well is expected to deliver around 1,000 barrels of oil per day along with approximately 1 million standard cubic feet of natural gas each day.
The latest result builds on information obtained from the earlier Bobi Deep-1 discovery. Data from that well helped guide further drilling and assessment activities, contributing to the successful outcome at Bobi-11.
The discovery is being viewed as another step toward expanding Pakistan’s local energy resources. Greater domestic production could help meet part of the country’s energy requirements through locally produced oil and gas.
The development may also encourage additional exploration activity in the surrounding area. Further successful discoveries could increase indigenous supplies and create new opportunities within Pakistan’s energy sector.
With the country continuing to face challenges related to imported fuel and energy costs, discoveries such as Bobi-11 could play a role in strengthening domestic energy availability. Increasing local production can also help reduce reliance on international markets for energy supplies.
The Bobi-11 development therefore adds to OGDCL’s exploration efforts and highlights the potential for further oil and gas resources in Sindh.
