Pakistan and Oman are considering a new maritime partnership that could bring Gwadar Port and Oman’s Sohar Port closer together as sister ports. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Noor Ul Haq Baloch and Oman’s Consul General Sami Abdullah Salim Al Khanjari.
The proposed arrangement is aimed at improving shipping connections and making trade between the two countries more efficient. It could also encourage new investment in ports, logistics and related businesses.
A closer link between the two ports could create additional opportunities for cargo moving between Pakistan, the Gulf and Central Asia. It may also provide a stronger maritime route for regional trade.
The partnership could have wider significance for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), potentially creating stronger connections between CPEC-related trade routes and markets in the Gulf and Central Asia.
Better coordination between Gwadar and Sohar could help simplify cargo movement, reduce transit times and improve regional supply chains.
The initiative reflects growing efforts by Pakistan and Oman to expand economic and maritime cooperation. If the sister-port plan moves forward, it could open new avenues for shipping, investment and regional connectivity.
