The Pakistani government has announced ambitious plans to establish a new Energy City and a modern multipurpose terminal at Port Qasim. This project aims to strengthen the country’s maritime infrastructure and boost the blue economy.
Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the Energy City will include bonded storage facilities for petroleum products, LNG, coal, and other energy imports. The new terminal will have advanced cargo handling equipment and modern infrastructure to manage increasing trade volumes. The government is inviting local and foreign terminal operators to invest in the project.
This development comes after Pakistan’s maritime sector achieved record profits in 2025. Officials believe that modern ports and better facilities will reduce ship waiting times, lower business costs, and improve efficiency.
Port Qasim is Pakistan’s second-largest port and handles a large portion of the country’s energy imports. The new Energy City is expected to attract significant foreign investment and create thousands of new jobs. It will also support Pakistan’s goal of becoming a major regional trade and logistics hub.
The project is part of a broader strategy to expand Pakistan’s maritime capabilities. Experts say that with improved connectivity through roads, railways, and special economic zones, these initiatives can play a key role in economic growth and regional trade.
