Local manufacturing plants have recently produced 24.66 million mobile devices in calendar year 2021, up from 13.05 million in calendar year 2020, representing an 88 percent increase.

According to official data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), commercial imports of smartphones reached 10.26 million in 2021, down from 24.51 million in 2020.

In December 2021, the number of locally manufactured/assembled smartphones climbed by 2.54 million, bringing the total production for the calendar year to 24.66 million.

The local manufacturing trend reflects a positive response to the PTA’s Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Authorization regulatory regime, with local manufacturing resulting in the production of 24.66 million phones in a year’s time, including 10.06 million 4G smartphones, as per data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
