Pakistan Ranks as World’s Third-Largest Solar Panel Importer

Pakistan has become the world’s third-largest importer of solar panels. This shows the country’s fast move toward clean and cheap renewable energy.

According to the Pakistan Climate Prosperity Plan (CPP) prepared by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan imported 17 gigawatts (GW) of solar systems in 2024. This was double the amount imported the previous year. Many people and businesses are choosing solar power because electricity prices from the national grid are very high.

Falling prices of solar panels have made them affordable for common citizens. Panels now cost much less than before, allowing people to run fans, lights, irons, and even air conditioners on solar energy. Most panels come from China.

The CPP report sets big goals for the future. Pakistan aims to produce 60% clean energy by 2030 and 95% renewable electricity by 2040. It also suggests reducing dependence on expensive imported oil and gas, improving the old power grid, and adding more solar and other renewable projects.

This solar boom is helping Pakistan save money on fuel imports, create jobs, and cut harmful carbon emissions. It is a big step toward better energy security and a cleaner environment for the people.
