Pakistan Still has Cheaper Petrol Than Regional Countries, Petroleum Minister

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has stated that petrol prices in Pakistan remain lower than those in several regional countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Türkiye, while staying broadly comparable to fuel prices in neighboring India.

The remarks were made during a committee meeting held to review the country’s petroleum pricing mechanism and explore measures aimed at improving transparency and efficiency within the energy sector.

During the meeting, the minister announced that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has been instructed to publish daily Platts pricing data on its official website, allowing the public greater access to the international benchmark used in determining fuel prices.

The committee also discussed proposals to strengthen the Petroleum Price Stabilisation Fund, accelerate the digitisation of Pakistan’s oil supply chain, and encourage higher local diesel production through refinery policy reforms. Officials said the committee will finalize its recommendations after its next meeting before submitting them to the prime minister for consideration.
