Pakistan to start manufacturing of solar panels locally

In an effort to increase the production and use of renewable energy and alleviate power shortages, Pakistan’s government has proposed eliminating taxes associated with the manufacture of solar and wind energy equipment in the country.

“We are launching our production and will deliver our first order for generating 2MW power very soon,” said Dr. Najeeb Ullah, who leads the research at the university.

The panels used to produce energy consumption around Rs. 60 per watt. We will produce AAA quality power panels, lowering production costs to Rs. 48 per watt and eventually to Rs. 10 per watt,” Dr. Najeeb stated.

“Currently, wind and solar projects generate 6% of total power in Pakistan; however, the solar panels used to generate energy are imported and are not as efficient.”
