Pakistan Wants $10 Billion from US on Economy Stablisation

Pakistan is awaiting a response from Washington in the coming months regarding its request for a $10 billion bilateral exchange stabilisation facility.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the proposed arrangement is designed to boost confidence in Pakistan’s currency and foreign exchange markets rather than function as a traditional loan. Finance Ministry adviser Khurram Schehzad also described talks with US officials as constructive.

If approved, the facility could provide additional support to Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, reduce pressure on the rupee and improve investor confidence.

The proposal comes as Islamabad continues implementing economic reforms under its IMF programme and works to strengthen its external financial position.
