Pakistani students will have a new opportunity to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom through a scholarship partnership between Allied Bank Limited (ABL) and the UK’s Chevening programme.
The initiative will provide financial support to two Pakistani students every year for three academic years, beginning in 2027-28. Selected candidates will be able to complete fully funded one-year master's degrees at leading UK universities.
The scholarship will focus on academic areas that can support Pakistan’s economic and technological development. These include Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, digital transformation, technology, economics and financial inclusion.
The partnership is particularly significant because it connects Pakistan’s private sector with one of the UK's leading international education programmes. It also reflects Allied Bank's commitment to developing skilled professionals who can contribute to the country's progress.
Allied Bank President and CEO Aizid Gill has a personal connection with the programme. He received a Chevening Scholarship in 2001 and completed his MSc in Business Economics at the University of Manchester. His experience has now helped create a similar opportunity for other talented Pakistanis.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott also highlighted the importance of investing in young Pakistani talent, noting that international education can equip future leaders with new knowledge and ideas that they can bring back to Pakistan.
The first two recipients will be selected from the existing applicant pool for the 2027-28 academic year. Meanwhile, applications for the 2028-29 Chevening-ABL Scholarships are expected to open in August 2027.
Through this collaboration, more Pakistani students will have the chance to access international education, develop professional expertise and prepare for leadership roles in their respective fields.
