Pakistanis are struggling with high fuel prices. A big part of what they pay at petrol pumps goes straight to taxes and government charges.
Reports say people now pay Rs. 124.73 per litre in petroleum taxes on petrol. This includes the petroleum levy, climate support levy, customs duties, dealer margins, and other charges.
These taxes help the government collect important revenue for the country. However, they also make daily life harder for ordinary people. Fuel is used for cars, buses, trucks, and bikes. When prices go up, the cost of everything rises too, from food to transport.
As of July 2026, the price of petrol is around Rs. 316 per litre. Taxes make up a large share, sometimes nearly one-third of the total price.
This puts extra pressure on household budgets, small businesses, and public transport. Many families find it difficult to manage rising inflation and daily expenses.
