Pakistan’s arms control resolution wins 180 votes; only India and Israel oppose

A Pakistan-sponsored arms control resolution has passed the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee with 180 votes in favour. India and Israel were the only two countries to oppose it.

The resolution is titled “Conventional arms control at the regional and subregional levels”. It puts the control of conventional arms at those two levels before the committee, which handles disarmament and international security.

The adoption took place in the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, rather than in a vote of the full Assembly.
