Pakistan’s First National e-Sports Tournament to take place in March: Fawad Chaudhry

The Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has declared that national level e-Sports will take place in Islamabad in March 2021. Waqar Zaka was being interviewed by the federal minister for the latter’s YouTube channel when he made the announcement. The famous host and media character of the TV show is a gamer himself and has previously supported government gaming policies and recently urged the government to lift the PUBG ban.

The federal minister asked Waqar Zaka himself to host the Tournament, asking Zaka for assurance that the bureaucracy would not interfere with the tournament. Fawad Chaudhry then said that by gathering sponsors for sponsorship, the tournament will be held privately. For students who are less inclined to conventional higher education, the Federal Minister has previously proposed a video game design certification programme. He said in the interview that individuals should follow a career that attracts them, and that video games are a very large industry.

The video game industry has a value of $90 billion. “In Pakistan, there is an annual growth rate of 20% (for the video game industry),” the Federal Minister said in an interview conducted in Urdu. “I’m told by the companies operating in Pakistan that we have more jobs available than people,” he continued.

The minister said that his ministry would certainly help talented people who could earn a name for Pakistan when asked if the government would support gamers who qualify for foreign e-sports tournaments.
