Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs Division X Account Hacked

Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed that its official X account (formerly Twitter) was hacked. During the cyberattack, a false post was shared about tensions between Pakistan and India.

The Ministry quickly regained control of the account and deleted all unauthorized posts. A spokesperson from the Ministry stated that the false content did not represent their official position and should not be taken seriously.

This incident comes at a time when cyber threats are on the rise. A recent advisory from CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) warned that hackers are taking advantage of tensions near the Line of Control (LoC). They are using phishing attacks, fake news, and misinformation to mislead people and create fear or confusion. These tactics are meant to shake public trust in official sources and spread panic.

Authorities are urging people to stay alert and be responsible online. Citizens are advised not to share unverified information, especially on social media platforms. Spreading false news can cause unnecessary panic and harm the country’s image. Instead, people should follow updates only from official government channels or trusted news sources.

Cybersecurity experts also remind users to strengthen their online accounts with strong passwords and to be cautious of suspicious links or messages. Reporting anything unusual can help prevent further attacks.

In today’s digital age, staying informed and cautious is just as important as staying safe on the ground. Everyone has a role to play in protecting national security online and offline.
