Pakistan’s population could reach 400 million by 2040 if the current rate of population growth continues, Minister of State for Health Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath has said. He shared these concerns while speaking at a ceremony held in Islamabad.
The minister stressed the importance of increasing public awareness about population growth and encouraging responsible family planning. He said improving maternal and child healthcare is also essential to support healthier families and manage the country’s growing population.
Dr. Bharath said the government has established a National Council under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address population-related challenges and develop effective policies. The council will work on strategies to promote sustainable population management and improve access to healthcare services across the country.
He also encouraged parents to carefully consider their ability to provide proper nutrition, quality education, healthcare, immunisation, and a safe environment for their children before planning the size of their families. According to the minister, responsible planning can help improve the overall well-being of children and families.
Dr. Bharath further said that expanding access to reproductive healthcare services and increasing the availability of modern contraceptive methods remain important priorities for the government. These measures are intended to help families make informed decisions about family planning.
He added that managing population growth requires cooperation from the government, healthcare professionals, and the public.
Raising awareness, improving healthcare services, and encouraging responsible planning can contribute to better living standards and support the country’s long-term social and economic development. Officials believe that effective planning today can help create a healthier and more sustainable future for the next generations.
