According to the sources, the Ministry of Information Technology has been working on a safe and secure messaging app that can be used by the PM, cabinet members, and other Govt officials for secure communication. The app is about to complete, with 60 % of the development work done.
Pakistan’s Govt had made the decision to create its own messaging app mainly from the perspective of the cybersecurity threats & other concerns that have been raised by worldwide users & masses in Pakistan over WhatsApp’s new privacy policy.
The expansion of such an app is especially important considering the latest disclosure that Israeli malware-Pegasus has been spying on a whole glut of highly respected journalists & politicians, with PM Imran Khan & Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi including the possible targets.
The sources said that the new communication app is going to look like WhatsApp in contractual conditions of security & encryption features, but the user interface will be distinct.
It had been announced in January that Pakistan was preparing to unveil its own WhatsApp-like messaging app, Smart Office, by June 2021 which will contain all contemporary communication features in addition to starting to accelerate work on completing the Personal Data Protection Bill.
As per the news report, the country’s information technology ministry has successfully completed 60 % work of a safe and secure messaging app & it will submit a progress report to PM Imran Khan as soon as it is complete.
