Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that Pakistan could face serious petrol supply problems if the ongoing global oil crisis continues. He said petrol may not even be available at Rs1,000 per litre if international supply disruptions worsen.
Speaking to reporters on September 21, Naqvi said the government was working to keep fuel supplies running despite difficulties in securing oil shipments. He said several countries were already facing problems obtaining petrol because of the current global situation.
His comments came a day after Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik also warned that petrol prices could reach Rs1,000 per litre if Pakistan faced a fuel shortage. Global oil markets have remained under pressure because of conflict in the Middle East and disruptions to major shipping routes.
Pakistan recently reduced the petrol price by Rs1.65 per litre to Rs389.14. The rate was set to remain effective until September 21. High speed diesel was reduced by 88 paisas to Rs424.04 per litre.
