PIMS to get Country’s First Surgical Skill Lab

The Head of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr Altaf Hussain, has announced the establishment of the country’s first surgical skills laboratory on the hospital campus, with the approval of its board of directors.

The state-of-the-art laboratory would be dedicated to training and teaching medical students, professors and surgeons from all branches.

Prof. Dr Altaf announced the opening ceremony of the Society for Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery’s 5th Rhinokon Conference in the auditorium of PIMS Maternal and Child Hospital.

Numerous ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialists from Islamabad and Rawalpindi participated in the event.

According to the head of the PIMS ENT department, who is also part of the organizing committee of the Rhinocon conference, the Moot will take place on October 15th and 16th at the Hotel Serena to offer the participants a unique opportunity to improve their knowledge and update.

He said that the conference will include workshops, live surgery sessions, one-on-one interaction by attendees with the operating faculty, symposia, panel discussions, lectures, interactive sessions, and awards ceremonies for residents and faculty, video presentations and posters for prizes, and free articles and poster sessions.

Prof Dr. Altaf said the academic mega-event would feature speakers from across the country and Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia.

He also said that many high-level faculty, aspiring ENT specialists and PG trainees from across the country would attend the event.
