By the end of last month, over 82000 acres of hybrid oilseed rape have been planted in Pakistan, mostly in Punjab and KPK. With seeds developed by Chinese company, the overall production of the hybrid rape has proven to increases by 5%, oil content by 20% and oil output by 10%. Automated harvesters have also been introduced, enhancing production by 30% and boosting farmers’ income.
Imports account for 90% of Pakistan’s edible oil consumption. The oilseed from the hybrid rape is set to improve local supply and save foreign reserve.
