The notorious Indian television anchor Arnab Goswami, was exposed about the Pakistan Army’s supposed presence in Afghanistan’s Panjshir valley, spawning a slew of memes on Pakistani and Indian Twitter.
Goswami, who is known for his war-mongering and far rightist mode of journalism in support of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, made the gaffe when he claimed that Pakistan Army officers were staying on the fifth floor of Kabul’s opulent Serena Hotel, ostensibly to aid the Taliban in their fight against Panjshir resistance fighters.
His claim bit the dust when they were swiftly debunked, as the Serena Hotel in Kabul only has two, not five, stories.
Last week, Goswami hosted a discussion on Republic World TV. In that particular show he invited an Indian expert and PTI spokesperson Abdul Samad Yaqoob who represented Pakistan They discussed “major divide” inside the Taliban, who seized control of Afghanistan last month.
When Yaqoob questioned Goswami’s statements about his Afghan sources, the anchor went on the defensive, claiming that his information had proven to be accurate, adding that the Panjshir opposition fighters had not given up and Pakistani soldiers were forced to withdraw from the valley.
Goswami was so confident about his claim that he even said that he knew the exact number of ISI personnel staying there and also, he knew what they had for dinner and breakfast.
Arnab has now claimed that he pranked Pakistan by making a vague statement, which he made over ten days after his initial declaration.
