P@lestinian Football Official Refuses to Shake Hands With Isr@eli Official at FIFA Congress

Jibril Rajoub, head of the Palestinian Football Association, refused to shake hands with an Israeli official during a recent FIFA Congress, saying that national dignity should not be compromised for formal gestures.

The moment took place when Gianni Infantino encouraged both sides to exchange a handshake. However, Rajoub chose not to participate and later explained that his decision was based on respect for Palestinian lives and core principles.

He stated that the issue goes beyond a simple protocol and reflects deeper concerns. Rajoub emphasized that his stance represents the feelings and position of his people, and he believes such symbolic actions carry meaning.

In addition to the incident, Rajoub confirmed that an appeal has been filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The appeal relates to what he described as FIFA’s limited response to alleged rule violations involving certain Israeli clubs operating in disputed settlement areas.

Rajoub said the matter is not about politics but about applying rules fairly to all members. He expressed concern that although some violations have been acknowledged, there has been little concrete action taken so far.

The situation has drawn attention within the global football community, raising questions about governance, fairness, and consistency in enforcing regulations.

This development highlights ongoing tensions in international sports, where political and ethical issues sometimes intersect with global events and decision-making bodies like FIFA.
