PM Imran Khan Will ‘Personally Speak’ with IMF Head about the Aid Money Conditions

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that he will “personally speak” to IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva about the aid money conditions put on developing countries.

PM Imran Khan made the remarks during a speech in Islamabad at the launch of the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) National Human Development Report (NHDR) on Pakistan.

“We’re going to talk to the IMF because we think there will be some disturbances. We will now have to revisit the situation and (likely introduce) a new Ehsaas program, just as our economy was recovering and all the indicators were optimistic,” the Prime Minister said.

“Our service industry in Pakistan has been seriously harmed, and now, with this third wave (of the novel coronavirus), we will have to sell reward packages,” he said.

PM Imran Khan also mentioned that the time had come to discuss a second aid kit.

“I believe it is time for a second package, and we will certainly speak with the IMF. I believe the IMF’s head understands — and I have read her comment — that this is a very unusual situation in which demand cannot be suppressed.”

“You can’t put limitations on people who have already been through a lot. I will personally speak to her,” he promised.
