Shehbaz Sharif has introduced a new housing scheme called the “PM Apna Ghar Programme” to help people across Pakistan own their homes through easy financing options.
Under this initiative, individuals can apply for housing loans of up to Rs. 10 million. The loans are designed to be affordable, with simple monthly instalments spread over a long period.
The repayment duration has been set at 20 years, making it easier for middle- and lower-income families to manage their finances while working toward home ownership.
The programme will be available in multiple regions, including Islamabad, all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This wide coverage aims to ensure that people from different parts of the country can benefit from the scheme.
According to official details, the government plans to build around 500,000 housing units under this programme. A total funding of Rs. 3.2 trillion has been allocated to support construction and financing activities, making it one of the largest housing initiatives in the country.
The markup rate has been set at 5% for the first 10 years, after which it will shift to market-based rates. This structure is expected to provide initial financial relief to borrowers.
Officials believe the programme will not only address housing shortages but also boost economic activity by creating jobs and supporting the construction sector.
