Pakistan has marked a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially inaugurated Sky47 Karakorum-01, the country’s largest AI cloud and data centre, in Islamabad.
The state-of-the-art facility, built with an 8.5MW capacity, is designed to strengthen Pakistan’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and advanced digital infrastructure.
The initiative is expected to provide the technological foundation needed to support the country’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem.
During the inauguration, the government also announced plans to establish similar AI cloud and data centres in Karachi and Lahore, creating a nationwide network to power next-generation digital services.
These centres are expected to support startups, businesses, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and public sector organizations by offering high-performance computing and secure cloud infrastructure.
Officials believe the project will play a key role in attracting technology investments, fostering innovation, creating high-skilled employment opportunities, and strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy.
It is also expected to enhance the country’s cybersecurity capabilities while supporting research and development in emerging technologies.
The launch of Sky47 Karakorum-01 aligns with the government’s broader Digital Nation vision, which aims to modernize public services, expand digital connectivity, and position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global artificial intelligence economy.
As AI adoption continues to reshape industries worldwide, the new facility represents an important step toward building a future-ready digital infrastructure capable of supporting Pakistan’s long-term technological growth.
