PM Shehbaz Sharif Tells Ministries To Take His Orders Seriously

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed federal ministries and departments to take greater responsibility for implementing government decisions, expressing concern over delays and weak follow-up. The instructions were issued to around 41 federal secretaries and heads of departments.

The Prime Minister’s Office said government directives should be carried out on time, with proper follow-up, due diligence and coordination between ministries. Officials were also told to focus on achieving the purpose of each decision rather than simply completing paperwork and other formal procedures.

The instructions followed a case involving problems in the handling of official directives and communications. According to officials, the matter was linked to changes in regulations concerning betel nut imports and issues involving communications with Indonesia and Uzbekistan. The matter has since been resolved.

Shehbaz Sharif said such lapses can cause unnecessary delays and weaken efforts to improve government performance. Ministries have also been asked to improve inter-ministerial coordination and ensure that decisions are followed through until their intended results are achieved.
