The power secretary in a meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), earlier on Wednesday, stated that power supply to Karachi might be discontinued if the federal government does not pay subsidy to K-Electric.
He mentioned that the government issues PKR 10 – 20 / unit subsidy to sustain its tax differential and has not paid PKR 150 billion to K-Electric yet. He further stated that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PML-N leader is putting efforts to evaluate the issue, however, till the payment is made the electricity to Karachi might be disrupted.
In addition, Power disruption across the country is expected to be increased by two hours, declared by Mushahid Hussain, as Central Power Purchasing Agency is unable to pay huge markup of almost Rs 216 billion to independent power producers.
In view of the increasing inflation and poor economic conditions of the country, it is expected that the country will be facing an extreme shortage of resources.
