Price of Sacrificial Animal Skyrocket Ahead of Eid

As only six days are left in Eidul Azha, the prices of sacrificial animals, especially of goats and sheep have increased. However, obvious rush was observed of buyers on the last weekend in cattle markets.

Even with this significant rush, buyers were leaving empty handed because of sky high prices of sacrificial animals.

A citizen said that prices are quite high and beyond the reach of common man.

As no price regulatory mechanism has been introduced, most of the sellers are demanding very high rates of sacrificial animal.

A normal size goat/ sheep/ lamb ranges from Rs 60,000 to 80,000 whereas, a cow and calf range from Rs 150,000 to Rs 300,000, observed in a visit to different sale points.

Whereas, the seller of sacrificial animals informed that the main reason behind such high prices of animals were increased transportation costs and animal fodder.

Salaried and low income groups are affected most by such high prices of sacrificial animals. They consider not to perform the sacrifice this year because of exorbitant prices.

According to an anecdotal survey conducted by sources, majority were giving preference to collective sacrifices due to the high prices.

The residents of several localities have decided to go for combined sacrifices with the help of multiple religious and social organisations such as local seminaries and mosques.

A customer said that It’s better to go for collective sacrifice that costs around Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000
